Rumba Latina 6

Rumba Latina returned in a big way for semester 2 for both students and non students. Held outside of the Griffith University campus for the first time at "Howl at the Moon”, Surfers Paradise, the event saw many fiesta enthusiasts from around the Coast and Brisbane.

Although the event was held on a Sunday it once again drew a large crowd that brought spectacular dance floor displays by many different couples. For many others the event was also a great cultural experience of music and festivities. Socially uniting many people from different backgrounds, the crowd was presented with an exciting display of highly energized live Latin music, traditional Colombian and Brazilian performances.

The night was warmed up via the great sounds of renowned Latin DJ, DJ Elkin, who comprised a smooth entourage of the latest South American music. This was then complimented by the traditional Colombian performance that followed, which received high appraise for their authentic choreography and costumes.

In similar fashion to the previous Rumba Latina's, “La Gran Salsa” provided a diversity of electrifying music that has made them one of the most renowned Latin Bands in Queensland.  The 8 member band ignited the dance floor with a nice blend of musical talent and skill, which left many tired and sore the next day from the non-stop dancing. For those that partied the whole night many were also sore from hangovers and tiredness the next day.

Once again the traditions of Brazil provided a high level of excitement of music and dance. The first of the three was the sexy Axe" (pronounced Ash-ay) dance performances, which was followed by the highly anticipated Samba dancers. The trio of amazingly decorated woman provided unforgettable and energizing dances that were very popular, particularly to the males. Making what was somewhat the finale to the successful night was a spectacular and exciting Capoeira trio performance, which in return was particularly popular to the woman. Many stayed around long after this ended filling the dance floor with a high sense of energy that was truly inspiring.

From all those that attended this event, no one seemed disappointed, and if there was it would have only have been that the night were to end early being on a Sunday. In all hope, hopefully this wasn’t the final Latin Party but the continuing of more Rumba Latina’s to come.
