The Rumba Latina began in Semester 2, 2002, with an explosion on the Griffith University Uni Bar. The first ever latin party saw just under 500 people party the way through the night with "FREE TEQUILA SHOT" on entry.
The night packed out the first ever Rumba Latina with rave reviews from students, staff, and dance enthusiasts. The sombrero filled room provided a positive atmosphere of fun and excitement. It also brought a new innovative theme towards University parties.
The former presidents Rafael and Milena performed a marvelous traditional Columbian dance that brought a piece of South America to Australia.
