Latin Club History

The Latin Club has organised a wide range of activities for its members and the entire university community. Since its creation in August 2002 every event on campus has been outstanding successes.

Latin Club has also participated, at all times, in different activities for different Clubs, International Centre and the Student Guild, promoting the interest of students on campus. The Club has clearly demonstrated an enthusiastic appreciation of Griffith and its members.

In terms of results the Latin Club have reach the most important achievements:

  • The Club started with 10 friends from different countries that wanted to promote the Latin culture on campus.  During the first sign on day of Semester 2, 2002, the Club received 103 members from diverse nationalities. The following semester the number has been duplicated with 210 and maintaining the same number in the current semester.  The Latin Club has become one of the largest clubs on campus in less than 12 months.
  • The Latin Club began promoting cutlural activities with its dance classes, which began with just salsa dance lessons in 2002. Since then the Latin Club has further its diversity with "Spanish Chats", "Capoeira", "Tango", and "Rueda" classes. Semester 1, 2005, saw the introduction of a "Cha Cha and Merengue" workshop class.
  • The Rumba Latina is a truly multicultural event on campus with the participation of many students from different backgrounds and cultures.  The first time the club saw about 480 students experience a night of Latin Culture: music, dance, friendship, happiness and lots of laughing.   Last semester Rumba Latina received over 600 students and this semester over 500 people. 2005 once again saw numbers reach around 500 people to one of the biggest parties on Griffth University campus.

Furthermore, the Latin Club has become an example for other clubs, new and old, working hard with our marketing and brand image, for instance, the Club has developed:

  • Logo
  • Official Banners
  • Official T-shirts
  • Leverage of brand equity through the own posters, poster design, flyer designs
  • Web Site Design: www.latinaustralia.com by Jaime Guerro (site now refers to latinclub.com.au)
  • Promotional and marketing strategy of events

The Latin Club also promotes its news and updates regularly with articles written by it's own club members. Therefore the club allows it's members to exericise and harness their skills that they may use in educational application.

The Latin Club continues to grow and has become one of the most popular clubs on campus. Become an member today and subscribe to a newsletter mailing list to keep up to date with our latest news and events.
